In the early hours of tuesday morning, a truck caused chaos on the B 22 federal highway when it spilled clear mud on the stretch of road between burgebrach and the city of bamberg, contaminating the roadway. Around 3 a.M., a road user informed the police that the through road in burgebrach was polluted. This contamination with clear mud extended into the city of bamberg. Since the clear mud not only smelled strongly, but also caused a high risk of slipping and skidding on the track, parts of the track had to be closed again and again for cleaning.
In the beginning, police officers from the bamberg-land and bamberg-city police stations took over the road closures. The various fire departments and forces of the technical relief organization then relieved the officers one by one. The affected stretch has a total length of about 15 kilometers. The driver of the dump truck loaded with clear mud only noticed the problem in the city of bamberg and then informed the police of his own accord. The relevant municipalities and the municipal building yard were also on site and coordinated the cleanup work. There was no health risk at any time from the spilled clear mud, police report says.
Accidents occurred on the slippery road: a semitrailer skidded on the clear mud track and crashed into a traffic island. The truck buckled on the right and the trailer severely damaged the driver’s house. The damage to property amounts to almost 20,000 euros. A car also slid into the ditch and came to a halt with property damage of 1000 euros. No one was injured. There were some obstructions in the morning rush hour traffic due to the cleaning work and the accident. It was not until 9 a.M. That the B 22 could be fully reopened to traffic.
